Press Release: Local teacher wins first iPad

A local school teacher has won an ipad3 in an innovative competition to help promote greener and more fuel efficient driving.

The ‘Loveurcarcolchester’ campaign was created by the Colchester Borough Council Air Quality Team in partnership with Colchester Travel Plan Club and V102 as part of a Defra funded project to encourage greener driving as a way of saving money in Colchester for journeys that have to be made by car.

Louise Woods, a teacher at Hazelmere Infants in Greenstead was delighted to hear she had won the prize after watching the video featuring local characters Perfect Purdy and Bald Baz, who start car sharing to save money; and answering a question about the film.

This original campaign uses fresh stories and vibrant imagery to show how car sharing can be fun as well as help save motorists money. The promotion has been advertised online, on the radio , on billboards, and via posters and flyers  around Colchester.

Councillor Martin Hunt, Portfolio Holder for Street and Waste Services said: “This has been a really successful campaign and we are pleased at how well it has been received. It has helped to deliver important messages about greener driving in an innovative way.

“I would encourage residents and visitors alike to visit the loveurcarcolchester website to check out the campaign and to be in with the chance of winning themselves.”

Competition winner Louise Woods added: “I was shocked and thrilled when I heard that I had won the competition. I regularly car share with members of my family and my partner to work, so I think this campaign is a great idea.  It saves us money with petrol costs being so high, so I would recommend it to anyone.”

The second phase of the campaign has now been launched with a new video.  Purdy returns with a new character, her know-it-all dad Bob Noxious, who is amazed at how much money he saves when he follows her ten fuel saving top tips. There is also another chance to win an ipad3, see http://www.loveurcarcolchester.co.uk/ for further information.
